Wake Forest, NC Water Source & Treatment
An educational overview of where Wake Forest drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and where to find the official annual water quality report.
Where Wake Forest Water Comes From
Most Wake Forest drinking water is supplied through the City of Raleigh water system, which provides treated drinking water to Wake Forest and other communities in Wake County.
The primary source of drinking water for the system is Falls Lake Reservoir in northern Wake County, a large surface water reservoir that supplies raw water to regional treatment facilities before distribution.
How Wake Forest Water Is Treated
Water supplied to Wake Forest is treated at Raleigh’s two municipal facilities: the E.M. Johnson Water Treatment Plant and the Dempsey E. Benton Water Treatment Plant.
Treatment generally includes coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Utilities may also use ozone and chloramines to improve water quality and maintain protection throughout the distribution system.
Official Wake Forest Water Quality Report
The City of Raleigh publishes an annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) summarizing drinking water sources, treatment processes, and regulated contaminant testing results for the regional water system serving Wake Forest.
