Apex, NC Water Source & Treatment
An educational overview of where Apex drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and where to find the official annual water quality report.
Where Apex Water Comes From
Apex’s drinking water comes from Jordan Lake, a large reservoir in the Cape Fear River Basin. The lake provides a regional water supply for several communities in Wake County.
Water is transported from the reservoir to the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility, a plant jointly owned by the Town of Cary and the Town of Apex, before it is delivered to homes and businesses throughout the Apex area.
How Apex Water Is Treated
Drinking water from Jordan Lake is treated at the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Plant, which uses a multi-step purification process to prepare water for distribution.
The treatment process typically includes coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Continuous monitoring and laboratory testing help ensure that the water supplied to residents meets state and federal drinking water standards.
Official Apex Water Quality Report
The Town of Apex publishes an annual Drinking Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) that summarizes water sources, treatment processes, and regulated contaminant testing results.
