Suffolk, VA Water Source & Treatment
An educational overview of where Suffolk drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and where to find the official annual water quality report.
Where Suffolk Water Comes From
Suffolk’s drinking water is supplied by the City of Suffolk Department of Public Utilities. The city produces drinking water using a combination of surface water reservoirs and groundwater wells.
Raw water is collected from local sources including the Lone Star Lakes area and other regional surface water supplies before being transported to treatment facilities. These sources provide drinking water for homes and businesses across Suffolk and surrounding Western Tidewater communities.
How Suffolk Water Is Treated
Drinking water in Suffolk is treated at the G. Robert House Jr. Water Treatment Facility, the city’s primary treatment plant.
The treatment process includes conventional surface water treatment methods such as coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Groundwater sources are also treated to ensure they meet state and federal drinking water standards before entering the distribution system.
Official Suffolk Water Quality Report
The City of Suffolk publishes an annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) summarizing drinking water sources, treatment processes, and regulated contaminant testing results.
