Williamsburg, VA Water Source & Treatment
An educational overview of where Williamsburg drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and where to find the official annual water quality report.
Where Williamsburg Water Comes From
Williamsburg’s drinking water primarily comes from Waller Mill Reservoir, a surface water reservoir located northeast of the city.
The reservoir stores approximately 1.5 billion gallons of water and serves as the city’s main drinking water supply. During periods of drought, additional supply may come from groundwater wells and from raw water purchased through agreements with Newport News Waterworks.
How Williamsburg Water Is Treated
Water from Waller Mill Reservoir is treated at the City of Williamsburg Water Treatment Plant before distribution.
Treatment typically includes coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection to remove particles and microorganisms. Continuous monitoring and laboratory testing ensure that the city’s drinking water meets all federal and state drinking water standards.
Official Williamsburg Water Quality Report
The City of Williamsburg publishes an annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) summarizing drinking water sources, treatment processes, and contaminant testing results.
