Greenville, NC Water Source & Treatment
An educational overview of where Greenville drinking water comes from, how it’s treated, and where to find the official annual water quality report.
Where Greenville Water Comes From
Greenville’s drinking water is supplied by the Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC). The system primarily relies on surface water sources collected from regional rivers and reservoirs before treatment.
Raw water is transported to the Greenville Utilities water treatment facility where it is purified before distribution to homes and businesses across Greenville and surrounding communities.
How Greenville Water Is Treated
Water is treated at the Greenville Utilities Water Treatment Plant, which has the capacity to treat approximately 32 million gallons of water per day.
The treatment process typically includes coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Greenville Utilities performs more than 100,000 laboratory tests each year to ensure the water meets state and federal drinking water standards.
Official Greenville Water Quality Report
Greenville Utilities publishes an annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) summarizing water sources, treatment processes, and contaminant testing results.
